- Account for 13.6% of potable water consumption
2. The Global CO2 emissions by sector are
- Buildings
- Transportation
- Industry
3. A Green Building can reduce
- Energy use by 24% to 50%
- CO2 emissions by 33%-39%
- Water use by 40%
- Solid waste by 70%
4. Green building is in demand
- In 2008 green building was a $12 billion dollar industry
- In 2010 green building is projected to be a $60 billion dollar industry
5. What is responsible for this increase in demand for green building?
- An unprecedented level of government initiatives
- A heightened residential demand for green construction
- Improvements in sustainable materials
6. The predictions for growth of green are
Commercial by 2010, approximately 10% of construction starts will be green Corporate America by 2009: 80% of Corporate America will be engaged in green at least 16% of the time 20% engaged 60% of the time Institutional over the next five years, dedication to green health care and educational facilities is expected to increase dramatically.
7. The projected Green building market value

Green Building is big business and the trend is growing exponentially. Whether it is construction of a retail center, office building, university, school, hospital, laboratory or other facility, engineers and contractors should keep in mind how Griswold Controls can help you benefit from this movement.
As a member of the United States Green Building Counsel, our goal is to improve the environmental performance and economic returns of buildings, while also improving and protecting the health of the occupants. Along with the other members, we seek to define “green building” by standardizing it with a list of specific criteria that cover a range of building performance issues and their effect on the environment, ultimately saving natural resources and increasing energy efficiencies.
In addition to the eco-friendly aspect, those who decide to build Green Buildings by meeting certain guidelines are rewarded with significant tax breaks and credits. This is important because it is estimated that a typical green building costs 5 percent to 10 percent more than a conventional building, though implementing efficiencies will lead to operational and energy savings over time. Thus, engineers and contractors must seek partners and vendors who can help them achieve green building goals.
